ข้าวเกรียบ- crisp rice-cakes. These are made with batter flavoured with sesame-seeds and spread out in thin pancake-like sheets. When toasted they become crisp and are considered quite a delicacy;

ข้าวกล้อง- milled rice imperfectly cleaned of husks and bran; ข้าวกล้า- tender rice plants intended for transplanting; ข้าวต้ม- soft boiled rice, congy or rice soup with chopped fish, meat or chicken; ข้าวต้มผัด- a cake made of partly cooked glutinous rice, coconut milk and banana, wrapped in a banana leaf and boiled.

ชาวบ้านอดอยาก ผมต้องกินข้าวคลุกน้ำปลามาหลายเพลาแล้ว The villagers are starving, andI have been having rice with fish sauce for several meals already.

ไม่มีข้าวพอสำหรับบริโภคในปีนี้ There is not enough grain for consumption this year. เรากินข้าวมากและกินเนื้อน้อยเกินไป We eat too much cereal and too little meat. เราเก็บข้าวไว้เผื่อข้าวยากหมากแพง We stock rice against famine. ข้าวปลาอาหารของเราหมดแล้ว Our stock of food is all gone (finished).
